On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the Council of Ministers decided to set the general minimum hourly wage at SRD 52.47 gross, effective April 1, 2025. This amount was established based on the advice of the National Wage Council. The new minimum wage applies across all sectors. At present, the minimum hourly wage is SRD 49.12.
The introduction of a minimum hourly wage means that no employee in Suriname may earn less than this amount per hour. However, employers are free to agree on a higher hourly wage with their employees.
